A hiring scorecard (also called interview scorecard) is a tool recruiters and hiring managers can use to structure interviews. Typically, a scorecard consists of the following elements:

  • Interview questions the interviewer will ask during the interview
  • Attributes that the candidate should have, with a rating scale for each attribute
  • A general rating scale to rate the candidate’s suitability for the role
  • An area with a comprehensive summary and notes of the overall impression of the candidate

When using a hiring scorecard, the hiring manager ensures that every candidate is assessed based on the same criteria. This ensures a consistent, structured interview process that reduces the risk of bias.

Moreover, by reusing the same scorecard for each candidate interview, you reduce the time needed to prepare for each interview. And after the interview, comparing candidates becomes much faster as you can easily compare them based on the predefined attributes and scores.
